School Bus Operator:

Benefits ALL Employees receive a $2000.00 per year retention bonus paid in $200 increments over 10 months.

  • Starting Salary $17.69; 6-Months: $18.67; 1-year: $19.52. $12.00 per hour during training
  • 25 - 35 hours per week
  • Applicants that already hold a CDL-B, Airbrake, Passenger & SBC will receive $500 ($250 after 6 months, $250 after 1 year)

Responsibilities

  • Transport students to and from school in a safe, caring manner
  • Optional extra work: school field trips and commercial charters
  • Ensure a complete safety check of the vehicle before and after use
  • Attend and participate in safety meetings

 Qualifications

  • Must be18 years of age or older and hold a valid driver license for a minimum of 2 years
  • Must have an excellent driving history; “more than three (3) recorded moving violations during the past two years will disqualify your application”
  • Can read and speak English sufficiently
  • Has to pass a DOT physical examination in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
  • Has to pass a DOT Drug/Alcohol screen in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
  • Has to pass New Hampshire Criminal Background check
  • You must be a high school graduate or have a GED
  • Any person applying for a job as a Bus Operator must inform Manchester Transit Authority of all previous employment as the driver of a commercial vehicle (covering the last ten (10) years).

Job Description – School Dispatcher

PURPOSE

This document defines the job description for School Dispatch.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for daily school bus operations, interacting with Operations and Mainteanace saff, and providing customer support services.

SUPERVISOR

This position reports to the Assistant Director: School Operations

WORK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday: 5:30am-9:30am, 1:00pm-5:00pm

JOB DUTIES

  • Open or close the school operations office

  • Provide 2-way radio and phone support

  • Track daily employee attendance

  • Cover open schedules as needed

  • Maintain daily communication with operators in the field

  • Respond to customer telephone inquiries in a timely manner

  • Coordinate with maintenance on vehicle availability and communicate driver issues as needed

  • Coordinate field operations during emergencies

  • Issue paychecks as needed

  • Provide backup Transit dispatch and weekend dispatching as needed

  • Drive transit or school routes as needed

  • Assign vehicles to routes as appropriate

  • Maintain lost and found records and item tracking

  • Data entry as needed

  • Input accurate payroll records

  • Supervise affiliated employees and ensure compliance with all MTA policies.

  • Ensure driver fitness for duty

  • Cross train to cover transit dispatch as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS                               

  • High school degree, equivalent or greater

  • Knowledge of local streets

  • Interpersonal skills, experience in Supervisory role, preferred

  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and service coverage effectively

  • Possession of or ability to obtain CDL-B, Passenger Endorsement, School Bus Certificate, Air Brake, DOT Medical Card

  • Previous dispatch experience, preferred

  • Understanding of our transit system, preferred

  • Ability to work independently, only supervisor during non-business hours

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS  

  • Ability to communicate in the English language

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time

  • Ability to operate a standard business computer, advanced technology experience preferred

  • Ability to use an electronic street map to provide navigation

PURPOSE

This document defines the job description for Transit Dispatch.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for coordinating Saturday Transit service and as-needed weekday transit and/or school operations, scheduling StepSaver service, interacting with the operations and maintenance staff, and providing customer support services. This position will also provide Transit and School bus driving support as-needed.

SUPERVISOR

This position reports to the Assistant Director

WORK SCHEDULE

Tuesday-Friday: 7.5 hours per day

Saturday: 8:30am-6:30pm

JOB DUTIES

  • Open or close the transit operations office

  • Provide 2-way radio and phone support

  • Track daily employee attendance

  • Cover open schedules as needed

  • Maintain daily communication with operators in the field

  • Respond to customer telephone inquiries in a timely manner

  • Coordinate with maintenance on vehicle availability and communicate driver issues as needed

  • Collect passenger information on Stepsaver service requests

  • Coordinate field operations during emergencies

  • Issue paychecks as needed

  • Provide backup weekend dispatching as needed

  • Drive transit or school routes as needed

  • Assign vehicles to routes as appropriate

  • Maintain lost and found records and item tracking

  • Data entry as needed

  • Input accurate payroll records

  • Schedule next working day Stepsaver trips and publish manifest for operators

  • Supervise affiliated employees and ensure compliance with all MTA policies.

  • Ensure driver fitness for duty

  • Cross train to cover school dispatch as needed.
