TITLE

Job Description –Transit Dispatcher

PURPOSE

This document defines the job description for Transit Dispatch.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for coordinating Monday through Friday afternoon Transit Dispatch, scheduling Stepsaver / Demand Response, interacting with the operations and maintenance staff, and provide customer support services. This position is responsible for fielding incoming calls or in-person questions regarding MTA / CART transit bus system. Booking Paratransit and Demand Response rides into a computer aided scheduling software. Selling fare media by phone, internet or in-person using the fare box and cash/credit card systems. Managing downtown transit bus operations such as on-time departure, assisting with passenger transfers, driver and vehicle operations. Provide basic travel training.

SUPERVISOR

WORK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday 11:00pm-7:00pm

JOB DUTIES

  • Open or close the transit operations office
  • Provide 2-way radio and phone support
  • Track daily employee attendance
  • Cover open schedules as needed
  • Maintain daily communication with operators in the field
  • Respond to customer telephone inquiries in a timely manner
  • Coordinate with maintenance on vehicle availability and communicate driver issues as needed
  • Collect passenger information on Stepsaver/Demand Response service requests
  • Coordinate field operations during emergencies
  • Issue paychecks as needed
  • Provide backup weekend dispatching as needed
  • Drive transit or school routes as needed
  • Assign vehicles to routes as appropriate
  • Maintain lost and found records and item tracking
  • Data entry as needed
  • Input accurate payroll records
  • Schedule next working day Stepsaver / Demand Response trips and publish manifest for operators
  • Supervise affiliated employees and ensure compliance with all MTA policies.
  • Ensure driver fitness for duty
  • Cross train to cover school dispatch as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS                               

  • High school degree, equivalent or greater
  • Knowledge of local streets
  • Interpersonal skills, experience in Supervisory role, preferred
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and service coverage effectively
  • Possession of or ability to obtain CDL-B, Passenger Endorsement, School Bus Certificate, Air Brake, DOT Medical Card
  • Previous dispatch experience, preferred
  • Understanding of our transit system, preferred
  • Ability to work independently, only supervisor during non-business hours

Job Description – Class C Mechanic
PURPOSE
This document defines the job description for the Class C Mechanic

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position requires the basic knowledge and skills to perform corrective and preventative maintenance on all MTA vehicles, equipment, buildings, property, and grounds. The technician will work closely with the Supervisor to assist in system analysis and policy implementation.
SUPERVISOR
This position reports to the Assistant Director: Maintenance
JOB DUTIES

  • Perform vehicle preventive maintenance to meet MTA standards
  • Diagnose vehicle defects and select a course of action for quality repairs
  • Repair all aspects of vehicle body, chassis, and frame
  • Be aware and learn all EPA regulations pertaining to chemicals used in body repairs
  • Repair vehicles at a minimum cost without sacrificing quality of repair
  • Ensure vehicles meet safety requirements in compliance with State and Federal laws
  • Perform road calls as required
  • Maintain a safe, clean, “team” oriented environment
  • Assist in all repair functions as requested
  • Properly use the Transit Fleet Maintenance Information System.
  • Properly fills in appropriate information on work orders.
  • Communicate professionally with supervisor and other technicians.
  • Use safely power and hand-held mechanics tools.
  • Inspect vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately
  • Inspect vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade
  • Conduct routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.) aiming to vehicle functionality and longevity
  • Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues (e.g. leaks)
  • Maintain equipment and tools in good condition
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

· High school diploma equivalent or greater

· Knowledge of service area

· Interpersonal skills and ability to lead by example

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Ability to prioritize, manage time, and work independently effectively

· Possession of or ability to obtain CDL-B, Passenger Endorsement, Air Brake

· Demonstrate computer skills, basic skills required, advanced skills preferred

· Proven experience as auto mechanic

· Excellent knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic components of vehicles

· Working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods

· Ability to handle various tools and heavy equipment

· Willingness to observe all safety precautions for protections against accidents, dangerous fluids, chemicals etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times
  • Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present

POSITION CATEGORY

Full time hourly position: at 100% - $23.72

The progression rate to be implemented for all new employees:

· 90% of the assigned classification rate for first six (6) months.

· 95% of the assigned classification rate for second six (6) months.

· 100% of the assigned classification rate after completion of twelve (12) months of service.

Full benefits including: health, life, dental, vacation, pension, sick time, and tool allowance.

Basic Work Week – The basic work week for maintenance employees shall be five (5) working days of eight (8) hours each or four (4) working days of ten (10) hours each per week.'

As a Maintenance Utility Worker, your primary responsibility will be to work closely with the Assistant Director of Maintenance, or technician in charge, to support the maintenance team, maintain site utilities, and perform basic maintenance of the fleet in compliance with company policies to ensure a safe working environment. The ideal individual for the role will have an attention to detail, work efficiently and safely while maintaining a high standard in their quality of work.

This position requires the basic knowledge and skills to perform fueling, cleaning and minor maintenance repairs on all MTA vehicles, equipment, buildings, properties and grounds..

As a secondary responsibility, you will support our team of drivers and cover schedules as needed. No experience? No problem! We not only train you to earn the necessary licenses and certifications, we also pay you while you do! Our Training Department will support you in earning your School Bus Certificate as well as your Commercial Driver License (Class-B) with the necessary endorsements.

If you have your CDL, and required endorsements, we offer a $500.00 sign-on bonus for all of the work you have already done.

Pay Rate:

  • $ 18.97 per hour starting rate
  • $ 20.16 per hour effective at 6 months
  • $ 20.77 per hour effective July 1, 2022
  • $ 22.00 per hour effective at one year

Anticipated Schedule:

Once you have completed training, your anticipated schedule will work as noted below:

  • Monday through Friday 12:30 PM through 9:00 PM
  • Saturday 10:30 AM through 7:00 PM

Please note you will have Sunday off in addition to one weekday off. Schedules and hours are subject to change based on business need.

Responsibilities:

  • The Technician may require assistance or guidance in the performance of his/her duties from immediate supervisors or other technicians with higher levels of experience or training.
  • The utility personal will, at times, be expected to be self-supervised and as his/her seniority and or skill level dictates, pass down information as directed by the supervisor or technician in charge.
  • The supervisor will inspect all jobs before work is performed and also at the completion of work performed.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years’ of age
  • Must hold a valid driver license for a minimum of two (2) years
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Must be able to read and speak English sufficiently
  • Must have an excellent driving history
  • Must successfully pass a DOT physical examination
  • Must successfully pass a DOT Drug/Alcohol screening
  • Must successfully clear a Criminal Background check
