What Is StepSaver?

StepSaver is an origin-to-destination shared-ride transportation service in Manchester, NH, offered by the MTA as required under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. This program assists individuals with disabilities who are unable to use the regular fixed-route bus service. StepSaver covers areas of Manchester within three-quarters of a mile from the fixed route. Call us at (603) 623-8801 (Opt. 2) to see if your destination is within our service area.

An application process is required to use the StepSaver service. Any applications not processed within 21 days of receipt will result in presumptive eligibility. Service will not be granted until an eligibility determination has been made.

Who Is Eligible?

Eligibility for service is determined by the MTA using ADA guidelines.

Visiting?

Visitors who are eligible under the ADA for paratransit are welcome to use our paratransit (StepSaver) service for up to 21 days while visiting the area. To apply for visitor status, complete the application below or if already approved for paratransit in another community simply provide MTA with the eligibility letter from that agency in lieu of a new application. How Do I Apply?

Call (603) 623-8801 to request an application. The application package will be sent to you for completion. After you’ve returned the application, we’ll contact you to schedule an interview in your home or at the MTA to better establish your eligibility. A final eligibility determination will be mailed to you within 21 days of receipt of the application. Completed applications should be returned to:

Where Can I Go?

StepSaver covers most of Manchester, as well as parts of Goffstown, Bedford, and Hooksett. We deviate by up to three-quarters of a mile from our fixed-route bus system.

How Do I Schedule a Ride?

StepSaver service is provided on an advanced reservation basis. Eligible passengers may call the MTA dispatch office and schedule their rides up to a week in advance. Please note that we do not take same-day reservations.

Reservation Hours
Monday – Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Saturday, 9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Transportation Hours
Monday – Friday, 4:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Last Pickup Window, 6:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

No Sunday service is offered. However, you may leave a message at (603) 623-8801 ext. 5160 on Sunday to schedule a ride for Monday. Please note that StepSaver is closed on the same holidays as our fixed-route system.

Round Trip: $8.00

Can I Bring Someone with Me?

Yes. Some passengers require the assistance of a Personal Care Attendant (PCA). PCAs ride for free with eligible passengers. Passengers may also bring up to three companions, depending on available space. Companions pay the same fare as the eligible StepSaver passenger. The origin and destination must be the same for all passengers. Let us know at the time of booking if you’re bringing a companion.

Our schedules and other instructions are available in accessible formats, including large print, braille, alternative languages, etc.
